Obituary

Kathleen "Kathy" Salo, born on March 12, 1945, in Wyandotte, Michigan, peacefully passed away on November 30, 2024, in Carleton, Michigan, at the age of 79.

Kathy was a trailblazer, becoming the first female crane operator on the Marine Base in Georgia, where she worked with dedication and pride. Her pioneering spirit and commitment to her work opened doors for future generations of women in the field.

In her personal life, Kathy found immense joy in the company of her family and indulging in her favorite pastimes—sewing and knitting. Her hands were rarely still, always crafting beautiful pieces that brought warmth and comfort to those around her. Her love for her family was boundless, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

Kathy was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Frances and Jim Belcher, as well as many loving brothers and sisters, who now welcome her into eternal rest.

She is survived by her loving husband Jerry, married 54 years and her devoted children, Robert Salo, Rick (Danita) Salo, and Jim (Marion) Salo, who carry forward her legacy of love and resilience. Kathy's memory will also live on through her eight grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and her sister Faye Hatfield.

Her unwavering spirit, love, and kindness will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Kathy's legacy will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends, a testament to a life well-lived and a soul well-loved.
