Obituary

Matthew Raymond Small, born on March 9, 1971, in Detroit, Michigan, passed away on January 21, 2025, in Jackson, Michigan, at the age of 53. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose warmth and spirit touched all who knew him.

Matthew dedicated his professional life to the field of technology as a skilled Technical Engineer, a role in which he thrived and contributed significantly throughout his career. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Matthew found joy in the great outdoors, enjoying hunting and fishing trips that brought him serenity and happiness. He was also passionate about woodworking, creating pieces that reflected his meticulous attention to detail and love for craftsmanship.

A man of many interests, Matthew also found pleasure in refereeing sports, participating in community games with dedication and fairness. However, his greatest joy came from spending time with his beloved family, especially his children and cherished granddaughter, Adalyn Glaab.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Michele Small, whose guidance and love shaped the man he became. Matthew is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Jenny; his dear children, Hailey (Brad) Glaab, Madison Small, and Kaitlin (Chase Miller) Small; and his precious granddaughter, Adalyn Glaab. He also leaves behind his siblings, Michele (Todd) Kolpasky, Ray (Amy) Small, and Gino Small; nieces and nephews Emma, Madelyn, Darien, Raven, Jackson, and Mason; sister-in-law Stephanie (Dan) Wray; and his mother and father-in-law, Ron and Darlene Adams.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a Memorial Visitation on Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Memorial Service celebrating Matthew's life will follow at 7:00 PM.

His cremation will take place at "The Witness Crematory," located inside Michigan Memorial Funeral Home. Matthew's legacy of kindness, dedication, and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.

Memorial donations may be made to the family.
