Obituary

Michael Angelo Paul Sultana, born on June 21, 1955, in Detroit, Michigan, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2025, in Grosse Ile, Michigan, just shy of his 70th birthday. A man of many passions, he found great joy in cutting grass, traveling, biking, enjoying the outdoors, and boating. These pursuits brought him closer to nature and filled his days with happiness and adventure.

Michael was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Frances and Mary Sultana, and his brother, John Sultana. He leaves behind his cherished sons, Eric (Ellie) Sultana and David Sultana, and his precious granddaughter, Willow Sultana, who will cherish the time she spent with her Nanu (Caring for horses, enjoying sun filled vacations on the beaches of Florida, exploring the world on cruises in the Caribbean, memories that will bring her lasting comfort and joy).  Michael will be fondly remembered by his former wife of 21 years, Becky Sultana, who shared a significant chapter of life’s journeys with him.

He is also survived by his sisters, Delores Galante, Juza (Vince) Sheridan, and Rose (Dave) Jacek, as well as his brother, Martin Sultana, who remain to honor his memory and continue his legacy of love and kindness. Micheal was an attentive and caring uncle to many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.

Michael will be fondly remembered as a hard worker who always put his family first. His spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, and in the memories they share.

  • One to the greatest men I have had the pleasure of meeting. I will never forget those late-night barn lessons. You wanted to know everything about Aretha so you could help Willow. Leading, Brushing, picking hooves, and just being so present. I enjoyed every minute of that time. I will hold your words close, just a few weeks back at All Arab you said you belong HERE fight the fight but remember you MATTER! You sir will be greatly missed! Rest in Power!!!!!! Anthony Amill
  • Big Mike was one of a kind, a rare gem, and this is a huge, devasting loss to all who knew him. He deserved to live to his 90s, and I thought he, if anyone, would because of his routine exercise, hard work, and never needing any meds in his 60s, which is rare. I was extremely fortunate to have lived with Big Mike in Grosse Ile for several years after his marriage ended. I was the luckiest girl I felt to have him as my boyfriend. It was a near perfect life with him. He taught my son, Michael (and thus the name Big Mike as my family and I called him to avoid confusion) who he spent time with how to be a high character person and encouraged him to do things like become a certified scuba diver, get into paintball, etc. I've never ever known a higher quality man. He was brilliant also. He could fix anything and knew so much on history, science, etc. His last some years were the best of times as he so enjoyed his granddaughter, Willow, his sons, and Ellie. He loved time with the horses. There is no man I've ever known who was as devoted and interested and close with his family as he was. He was the hardest working and most dependable person I've ever known. I know that as special as he was, and talented as he was, that he will find a way to look after his sons, Ellie, and Willow from afar as a guardian angel. My deepest sympathies are with his family. But he had the best life ever, in large part because you all loved and cared for him so much. You filled his final years with so much joy and fun times. Celebrating his outstanding life is what he would want over sadness. Lynn Lynn Ronewicz
