Norma Jean Seles (Molnar), born on July 31, 1940, in Harlan, Kentucky, to Archie Sandy and Linnes Daughtry, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2025. Jean, as she was called her whole life, was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who dedicated her life to her family and community.
Jean married Roger R. Molnar on July 25, 1959, in Twin Falls, Idaho. Together, they raised four children: Roger (1960), Vickie (1962), DeeDee (Denise) (1963), and Ronald (1968). Jean was a devoted stay-at-home mom, keeping a clean house and nurturing her children until she decided to enter the workforce. She worked at Payless Shoes, then held two jobs at one time for Kronbach Shoes and Wyandotte Alarm, where she eventually retired.
She had a passion for gardening, spending countless hours making her yard pristine and the envy of the neighborhood. Jean also loved entertaining family and friends, especially during Thanksgiving and Christmas. One Thanksgiving, Jean, being the animal-loving person she was, noticed one of her children’s golden retrievers in their backyard with a squirrel attached to its nose. She promptly retrieved a shovel, freed the dog from the squirrel, then smashed the squirrel to oblivion and threw it into the farmer's field. From that moment on, our Thanksgiving had a squirrel theme that was enjoyed for many years.
Jean lived in various places throughout her life, including Harlan, Kentucky; Detroit, MI; Long Beach, CA, where her husband, Roger, served in the U.S. Navy; Lincoln Park, MI; Flat Rock, MI; and spent summers at her home in Prescott, MI.
Jean is survived by her husband, Louis Seles; four children: Roger (Jannine), Vickie (Jay), Denise (Kevin), and Ronald (Jennifer); 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; her sister, Ruth; a brother-in-law; two sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved fur babies, Trena and Leana. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, and her brothers, Ken and Don.
Jean’s legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to her family will be cherished and remembered by all who knew her.
