Obituary

Olga Swick, 91, of New Boston, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 18, 2023.

Born October 28, 1931 in Detroit, Olga was the daughter of Ned I. and Anna Procyszyn. On November 4, 1950, she married Kenneth R. “Bob” Swick. In 1959, Bob and Olga moved to Carleton, where they owned and operated the Carleton Hotel and later the Carleton Laundromat. Olga was also employed by Airport Community Schools as a secretary, retiring  in 1991. Olga enjoyed traveling, visiting casinos, and watching her grandkids’ sports games. She also enjoyed the activities of the Huron Senior Club, especially Mystery Lunch, shows at the Encore Theater, and weekly card-playing sessions.

Olga was the center of the family: our matriarch and our rock. She taught us innumerable card games; trained us to make delicious popcorn balls; and provided steadfast support through all phases of our lives. We will be forever grateful for our time with her and will carry her with us, always.

Olga is survived by her children Larry (Lori) Swick, Kent (Margi) Swick, and Cindy Swick; 9 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Dilks; two nephews and one niece. She was predeceased by her husband, Bob; two sons, Rick Swick and Craig Swick; grandson Lance Swick; great-grandson, Zachary Glasgow; and brother-in-law Bruce Dilks.

At Olga’s request, there will be no public funeral or memorial service. Instead, we suggest that you enjoy a family game night, and remember: “there’s no friends in cards!”

Memorial contributions in Olga’s honor may be made to the Huron Township Senior Citizens, c/o Huron Township.

Condolences

  • What a delightful lady that I have come to know over all the years of my association with the Swick family. She was surely the center of attention at gatherings, and if she spotted me in a crowd, would make her way over to give me a genuine hug. Condolences and comfort to the extended Swick family, at this time and in the days to come. David H. Kuykendall
