Obituary

Shirley Caroline Scott (Schlener), aged 88, went to be with the Lord on October 31, 2025, in Livonia, Michigan. Born on March 1, 1937, in Freemansburg, Pennsylvania, Shirley lived a life filled with love, generosity, and warmth that touched everyone she met.

Shirley worked as a Meat Packer, but her true calling was in nurturing and caring for those around her, both human and animal. With a heart of gold, she never knew a stranger, always ready to engage in conversation and share a smile. Her family was the center of her world, and she treasured every opportunity to gather them for meals she lovingly prepared. An amazing cook, Sunday dinners at Shirley’s table were cherished by all who were fortunate enough to join.

Her compassion extended beyond her family. Shirley had a profound love for animals, often moved by their plight. She would go out of her way to provide food and comfort to strays, driven by an unwavering desire to alleviate suffering wherever she saw it. Her charitable spirit was evident through her contributions to several organizations, including St. Jude's, Wounded Warriors, Boys Town, and the A.S.P.C.A. Though modest in means, Shirley found great joy in giving whatever she could.

Creative and talented, Shirley enjoyed crafting, particularly crocheting and working with plastic canvas. She created beautiful items such as clocks, angels, lamps, and Christmas bells from beads, sharing her handiwork with loved ones. Her Friday nights were spent dancing with her beloved sister and brother-in-laws, and she cherished date nights with her husband, which included bingo and dinner.

Shirley’s passing leaves an immense void in the hearts of her family. She is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 56 years, Earnest Scott; her son, Gordan Scott; her parents, Lewis and Leila Schlener; three sisters, Jean Reddick, Hilda Laichalk, and Lois Grimsley; and two brothers, Lewis Schlener Jr. and James Schlener.

She leaves behind a loving legacy through her surviving family: her son, Earnest (Jeryl) Scott; her daughter, Susan (Terry) Stephens; four grandchildren, Jason (Melissa) Stephens, Eric (Stephanie) Stephens, Jessica (Luke) Golden, and Megan Scott; and five great-grandchildren, Camden, Rylan, and Charlotte Stephens, levi and Myra Golden. Shirley is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends who will dearly miss her kindness and generosity.

The family grieves the loss of Shirley but celebrates the life of a woman who brightened the lives of so many. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
