Shirley May Shaffer, age 89, died at Cedar Woods Assisted Living, Belleville, Michigan on July 14, 2018. Shirley was born August 21, 1928 at her parent’s home in New Boston, Michigan. She was the fifth child born to her parents, Elias Jackson Stewart and Emma Thresa Stewart. Two more children were born after Shirley. She was brought up and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Boston, Michigan. She was married there on December 31, 1947 to Steve Alex Shaffer. That union was blessed with five sons: Steve Harold (Carol), David Allen (Darlene), Gary Richard, Larry Mark (Linda) and Kevin Tod. Shirley put her faith and trust in God and saw to it that her sons went to church and Sunday School. She had an 8th grade education and loved to read. She also enjoyed bowling in her younger years. She was a member of St. Paul’s Ladies Aid for many years. Besides being survived by her sons and their wives, six grandchildren: Renee (Eric) Walker, Jennifer (Andy) Tarnoff, Aric Shaffer, Tavis Shaffer, Brooke (Chris) Koch, James Hester, plus six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Steve; son, Gary; brothers Victor, Clarence, Leonard, Howard, Harold and one sister, Barbara. Shirley will be laid to rest next to her husband Steve and son Gary. Thanks for being a wonderful mother. Rest in Peace.
