Obituary

Stephen Francis Sholtes, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2024, in Wyandotte, Michigan, at the age of 84. Born on June 3, 1940, in Ecorse, Michigan, Stephen led a life marked by dedication to his family and community.

Stephen spent his professional career as an esteemed insurance agent, earning the trust and respect of clients and colleagues alike with his commitment and integrity. Outside of work, he nurtured a variety of interests that brought him joy and fulfillment throughout his life. He was an avid reader and cook, and in his younger years, he enjoyed skiing and golfing. Later in life, he found great pleasure intending to his garden, a testament to his nurturing spirit and love for nature.

A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Stephen also dedicated time to his community as a former member of the Kiwanis Club of Wyandotte, exemplifying his commitment to service and camaraderie.

Stephen cherished spending time with his family, particularly enjoying visits to his grandchildren in California and vacations to Florida, where he made countless memories with those he held dear.

He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Stephen and Evelyn Sholtes, his sister Sharron Howard, and his brother and sister in laws Oswald, Val, George, William, Rudy and Barbara (Arlow). Their memories live on in the hearts of those who knew them.

Stephen leaves behind his devoted wife of 57 years, Martha Sholtes, who was his steadfast companion and greatest support. He is survived by his two sons, Stephen Sholtes and Phillip (Yumi) Sholtes, who carry forward his legacy of kindness and strength. He cherished his grandchildren Colt and Kato. He is also lovingly remembered by his sisters-in-laws Susan, Dolores, Shirley, Carolyn, and Joan, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who cherished their time with him.

Stephen’s life was a testament to the power of love, dedication, and community. His presence will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His cremation will take place at “The Witness Crematory” located inside of Michigan Memorial Funeral Home.
