TILLEN, Audrey L., age 88, of Allen Park, December 05, 2015. Beloved wife of Robert J. Tillen. Loving mother of Robin (Vik) Brown and Kim Tillen. Dearest grandmother of Jessie (Jimmy Mysliwiec) Brown and Ben (Dana) Brown. She is also survived by her granddog Gomez and her grandcat Zusia. She is preceded in death by her parents Charles Clements and Jessie Clements Boyle. Audrey Tillen was born in the Roaring Twenties. She has fond memories of herself as a child playing in the rumble seat of an old Model T Ford. She endured The Great Depression and World War II. She attended Eastern Michigan University. Audrey first majored in art and fashion design- she loved clothes. After obtaining a degree in sociology, Mom enrolled in a master's degree program in social work at Wayne State University. She dropped out of this program because the expectation was that one would be 'analyzed', and she did not want to be 'analyzed'. Mom married Robert Tillen a WWII vet, who served in post occupation Japan. They were married for 65 years. Mom started teaching elementary school without a degree in education because there was a shortage of teachers. She obtained a teaching degree by attending night school and summer school. Audrey had a very strong sense of justice, and marched in civil rights marches. She was always keenly aware of politics, the news, and sports. Audrey was a deeply religious and spiritual person. She could be charmingly frank, and always made us laugh. We celebrate her life.
