Obituary

James Harold Tucker, born on May 13, 1930, in Tellico Plains, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2024, in Livonia, Michigan, at the age of 94. James was a dedicated and hardworking man who spent 40 years in the steel fabrication industry, serving as a shop foreman and local union steward for the United Steel Workers of America.

In 1950, James relocated to Metro Detroit, where he spent the remainder of his life. A man of many interests, James enjoyed golf and bowling, but his greatest love was his church. For 20 years, he was a devoted member of the Fundamental Baptist Temple. He later became a founding charter member of Bethel Baptist Temple of Livonia, where he worshipped and served alongside his beloved wife Sharyn. James served his church faithfully for 48 years as a Trustee, Choir Member, Teacher of the Awanna Club, Vacatiom Bible School teacher, Coordinator of retreat for the Pastors Class, and Greeter.

James was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Randolph; second wife, Sharyn Tucker; son, Steven Tucker; and his siblings Ralph (Corbin), Annis (Grace), Della, Ida Burl (Beryl), and Mary.

He is survived by his children: James (Jeanne) Tucker, Brian Tucker, Robert (Gail) Tucker, and Melanie (Gary) Travis. James also leaves behind a legacy through his grandchildren: Sarah (Ryan), Laura (Jesse), Anna (Ricky), Amy, Sean, Nicole (Tanner), Hailey (Israel), Mark, and Melissa, as well as his 11 great-grandchildren. His sister, Lila Ramey, also survives him.

James Harold Tucker will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his church, and his community. His life was a testament to hard work, faith, and love.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dominican Sisters of Mary Mother of the Eucharist.

  • Carol and I are sending love, hugs and prayers to Uncle Harold’s children. He was one of the greatest uncle one could ever ask for. Our family was very large but everyone tried to get to Tennessee. I have many unbelievable memories that I will cherish forever. To our whole extended family we sent love and prayers. Uncle Harold besides loving his children and wife, he loved everyone of us. I know they are having one big Tucker reunion. We now have many gardenia angles looking over us.
