He is also survived by his brothers Robert (Ruth Ann) Thompson and Arthur (Jan) Thompson, his sweet cocker spaniel Elley, many nieces, nephews, and many special friends and neighbors who were always there for him. He is preceded in death by his son Jerry Thompson, Jr. and his parents Leslie and Mary Thompson. Jerry was born July 06, 1939 in Detroit. He grew up in Wyandotte and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1957. Jerry played football and baseball in high school and continued for many years playing baseball for many leagues. He married the love of his live, Linda (Penland) in 1972. Blessed with one son Brian W. Thompson they celebrated 44 years of marriage. Gibraltar was home for 35 years, there Jerry enjoyed fishing on the Detroit River for walleye that he always gave away to friends and family. Jerry worked as a maintenance supervisor at McLouth Steel for 46 years in Trenton and Gibraltar. After retiring he moved to Canadian Lakes and enjoyed Golfing and RV traveling. Jerry was an avid bowler and attained his first 300 game in 2008. After a courageous 4 ½ year battle with cancer he is now at rest with Our Heavenly Father. His cremation took place at “The Witness Crematory” located inside of Michigan Memorial Funeral Home.

Condolences

  • Jerry & I go back many years when the family 1st moved to 13th St. in Wyandotte. I lived down the block & shared baseball, and played pool in their basement when Leslie was at work. Jerry, Wally Merritt and Joe Sacka spent many summertime hours on the river in Merritt's boat. Those memories will stay with me forever, as well as our "dash to New York City" in 1958 RIP Jerry Dale Roush
