Obituary

Kathey Jean Thornton was born on September 22, 1953 in Garden City, Michigan and passed away on February 5, 2022, peacefully at her home in Brownstown. Kathey was the dearest wife to Michael Thornton for 51 years. She was a very loved and cherished mother to Kristy (Frank) Czech and Rebekah (David) Conover. A devoted Nana to Jason Whittenburg and Emmitt Conover. She is survived by her mother, Clara, and sisters, Faye (Bill) Staggs, Elaine (Scott) Shafer, Angie (Mark) Burmis and Jackie Jo Borkowski. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, and her furry family member, Pollyanna. Kathey is preceded in death by her son, Jason and father, Jack Henson. Kathey, also known as “Mrs. T” adored children and worked as a preschool teacher for over 20 years. She enjoyed crafting, quilting, gardening, camping, scrapbooking and attending the Detroit Tiger’s games. Kathey loved to give, and would often make trips to the dollar store to buy children’s toys and hand them out to any child she would come across. “Stranger” was not a word in Kathey’s dictionary, she took care of everyone she met as if they were family. Kathey is dearly loved, missed and forever remembered by those who knew her.

  • A truth that helps me understand everything that happens in this life is that everything that takes place is for Gods glory or for the good of his people. Not a easy pill to swallow when we loose a loved one, or suffer through painful circumstances, but is comforting to know God is in control, nothing can pluck us out of his hand . Death can separate us from each other for a time, but Gods love for us extends eternally. May God grant you comfort and understanding in this difficult time. See you in the spring. Gods blessings, Dave and Shelley Dave and Shellie van houten
