Obituary

Phyllis J. Tegge (nee Contino), 88, of Flat Rock, MI. Passed peacefully into eternity December 3, 2021. Beloved wife of the late William P. Tegge. Dearest sister of Emmanuel (Maxine) Contino and Abraham (Melanie) Contino. Phyllis was preceded in death by her sister Marie (Gerald) Knoch, brother Samuel (Judy) Contino, parents Filadelfo and Rose Contino, half-brother Frank (Beatrice) Pierce, half-sister Teresa (Lyle) Lepage, and sister-in-law Carol Lee Tegge Markey. Phyllis is also survived by her sister-in-law Ruth Ann Tegge Groesbeck, step-children Mary Lynn Kwapich and Gary Tegge, granddaughters Leah Jump, Andrea Walsh and great-grandchildren. “Auntie Phyllis” will be dearly missed by her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and great-great-nephew. Phyllis was a retiree of the State of Michigan. Prior to that career, she worked for several doctors and also at two hospitals in medical administration, as well as in administration with the Teamsters. Phyllis was a very social person and developed many long-term friendships such as her Roosevelt High School ’52 girlfriends, her Michigan and Florida church “families,” neighbors in both Michigan and especially at their Florida condo where she and Bill participated in many events. Phyllis and her husband Bill loved to travel, taking many trips and cruises. She even enjoyed occasionally accompanying him on some of his cross-country routes as a truck driver. After their retirement they enjoyed their cabin “Up North” and as “snow birds” enjoyed their winters at their condo in Florida. Phyllis developed a passion for painting, which she took up in her retirement and gifted many beautiful paintings to her grateful relatives. Her lifelong passion, playing the piano, as well as singing (church choirs, etc.) brought joy to friends and family alike. Finally, Phyllis was a woman of God, both in spirit and in her behavior and deeds. Being raised knowing her Lord and Savior provided Phyllis with the solid foundation of her life. She set the example of living a God-filled life that will be her special legacy. Her spirit will continue through all those whose hearts she touched. Her cremation took place at “The Witness Crematory” located inside of Michigan Memorial Funeral Home.

Condolences

  • Auntie, I love you so much. I miss you with my whole soul! You are like a mother to me and I appreciate you so much. You've always been there for me...I will always remember your advice, our trips up north over the years, the love and encouragement you always showed to everyone and so many other things about you. I'll miss your hugs most. Can't wait to see you again! I love you forever! Jennifer Dervin
  • Phyllis, I will always be grateful to you for loving my brother and our family, as we all loved you. I enjoyed our visits, and my trip to see you in Bradenton. You and Bill gave me wise counsel and emotional support when I needed it. I love you my dear “sister”. Ruth Ann Groesbeck
