Obituary

Richard (Rick) Leland Town, Jr., resident of Huron Township, Michigan, formerly of Flint Township, passed away on Monday, July 30 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor due to complications from pneumonia. He was 73 years old.Rick spent his career in leadership positions in the death care industry with companies including Howe-Peterson and Fortis, Inc. He served most recently as Vice President and General Manager of Michigan Memorial Funeral Home. A graduate of Officer Candidate School, Rick served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged during the Vietnam era. He was a graduate of Wayne State University’s School of Mortuary Science.After formal retirement, he drove a Model T at The Henry Ford and served as a national park ranger at River Raisin National Battlefield Park in Monroe.Rick participated as an actor and director with several area groups including Huron Civic Theatre, Monroe Community Players, Players Guild of Dearborn, Southgate Community Theatre, and the Downriver Actors Guild. He also enjoyed hobbies including paintball, auction hunting, gardening and above all, enjoying the company of his family and grandchildren, and dealing with an endless succession of dogs.He is survived by his wife Mary Jane (Bagger), his sons Erik (Melinda Michaels) and Errol (Dana Gamber), grandchildren Ellyse, Evan and Ellen as well as his brother Barrie (Millie), sister Marsha (Ken McLean) and cousin Bruce (Judy) Sage.He was preceded in death by his parents Richard Town, Sr. and Yvonne Dennis Town, and grandson Caden as well as numerous cousins.
