Obituary

Thompson, Werner

March 26, 1956-January 21, 2023 Age 66

Born Werner Wojcihowska in Hamm, Germany, he spent his youth playing football and was proud to serve in the German Air Force. He was stationed in Texas for a time which contributed to his desire to live in the United States.

Later in life, he met the love of his life, Linda Thompson. They were married on December 19, 1994 in Germany. The mountain of paperwork that was required to accomplish marriage in a foreign country was a testament of their true love.

Werner’s journey to America began by taking Linda’s last name of Thompson. America was the place he loved and called home. He proudly gained American citizenship on July 27, 2015 and always displayed our nation’s flag. Werner was an avid American History buff and did quite well on the immigration test required to become a citizen. 10 questions required, the interviewer stopped at six.

Werner was a kind man with a big heart. He never had children but he loved Linda’s daughters as his own. He spoiled his grandchildren who were the sparkle in his eyes. He never visited without a treat; one of his favorites was Oreo cookies.

Werner loved being outdoors. He not only maintained his own three acres, but would help his neighbors as well. He had a pristine yard and garden that was visited by deer, birds, and the family dogs.

Werner was a successful hardworking man. He took great pride in being a homeowner and called his shiny F-150 truck his baby.

We will remember Werner for his love of cooking. He treasured his mother’s cookbook that was written in German and stuffed with handwritten favorite recipes, now gifted to Melissa.

Werner’s leisure time was filled with music, reading, and watching crime movies. He told the best stories with much humor and laughter. He enjoyed every minute spent with his grandchildren, often teaching lessons in German.

If you met and knew Werner, you were blessed. He had a phenomenal and engaging personality. He will be truly missed by so many. May he rest in peace among the stars and angels.

Werner is survived by his wife, Linda, daughters Melissa (Brian) Mowrer and Jennifer (Rodger) Frayer, grandchildren Alexis, Savannah, Rodger Jr. (RJ), Brandon, and Charlie.

He is also survived by his lifelong family friend Axel Renner, Isabell Renner, and close family friend Mary Strawsine. He was preceded in death by his lifelong family friend Astrid Renner, close friend and neighbor Russell Strawsine, and his fur baby Sandy.

His cremation will take place at “The Witness Crematory” located inside of Michigan Memorial Funeral Home. We will have a celebration of his life in the near future. If anyone would like to send sympathy cards to the family, please send them to Michigan Memorial Funeral Home and we will forward them to the family.
