Obituary

Wilma Jean Teague, January 31, 1937 - December 25, 2016Wilma was born in Middlesboro, Kentucky to Burl and Macie Langford. She moved to Monroe with her family when she was 5 years old. She attended Lincoln School and Monroe High School until 11th grade when she left school to marry Troy Teague. They moved to Taylor, where after having 3 children, she enrolled in night school and received her diploma from Taylor Center High School. Wilma and Troy moved to Carleton in 1972. Always a hard worker, she was employed by Ray Hunter Florist in Southgate for several years and K-Mart in Monroe, from which she retired after 30 years. Following that she worked a short time as an aide for Airport Community Schools. She enjoyed sewing, reading, and gardening. Her pantry was always full of home-canned vegetables and soup and no one could make cornbread like her. She loved visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and they knew Mammaw always kept a stash of candy waiting for them. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Flat Rock. Wilma's life journey of 79 years ended on Sunday, December 25th surrounded by family and the tender care of the devoted staff at Fountain View of Monroe, her home for nearly a year, and Great Lakes Hospice. We will always be grateful for the Fountain View staff who treated our mom as their own with their phenomenal, personal attention and love they poured out to her. Wilma is survived by her children, Jeffery (Patricia) Teague, Janice (Raymond) Reeder and Jeanie (Robert) Swiontoniowski, all of Carleton, grandchildren Emily Teague, Laura Teague, Karen Bauman, Kevin Reeder, Kristopher Reeder, Anna Swiontoniowski, Dan Swiontoniowski and Joel Swiontoniowski, and 6 great-granddaughters. She is also survived by her brother, Robert Langford, her sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Jerry Ferguson, her sister-in-law, Sharon Langford and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy, in 2003, and her brother, Bernard Langford.

Condolences

  • Many fond memories of Mrs. Teague when living across the street. She and her family meant a lot to my grandparents, Louis & Helen Poller and also with our family. Thoughts are with all of you during this difficult time. Memories will live eternal in your hearts. Lorrie Kecskes
  • I was so saddened to hear about Mrs. Teague passing away. I have sooo many fond memories of her. She was very kind and hard working. She always had a smile for me. I will never ever forget how she was a role model for me in my youth. She loved her family with all her heart. She used to work with my sister Linda Marut at Kmart in Monroe. My sister always said what a hard worker she was and how she was so helpful to everyone there. I am sad that her family will be missing her. There will definitely be a void where that sweet sweet lady used to be. I am going to do "acts of kindness" in her honor to keep her spirit flowing. I will continue to pray for her family.
