Obituary

Daniel Edward Valerius entered eternal life at 11:40 pm on Tuesday, January 17th, 2023. He passed peacefully and in the presence of loved ones.

Dan "the Man" was born in Lincoln Park on May 6, 1938 to Clarence and Rosella.

He was surpassed in life by his sister Patricia, and brothers David (spouse Pat) and Clarence and is survived by his youngest brother Rick.

Daniel truly loved his children and Mark, Cathryn, Matthew (spouse Holly), and Amy will continue to be his pride and joy.

His children blessed him with grandchildren — Ian (spouse Jill), Courtney (spouse Nick), Kaela, Emily, Hannah, Nathan and Cathryn - who warmed his heart and soul, and Papa Dan would glow and beam with happiness when seeing and talking about his grandkids.

Daniel was further blessed with two great grandchildren — Bence and Aurora.

Daniel was a United States Army veteran who proudly served our country and received an honorable discharge on October 31, 1964.

Daniel worked for Farmer Jack's/Borman's for 26 years and retired in 2000 at age 62.

Dan the Man loved the sunshine, warm weather and enjoyed trips to Florida but his heart and soul always remained in the big M (Michigan).

His smile and sense of humor made everyone around him happy. He was a very social person who loved to be around friends and family. His hobby was people and he treated everyone like a friend.

Although he had only 4 children by birth, he always referred to his children's friends as his own and they respected and loved him calling him Dad or more commonly, Mr. V.

He will be missed by many but will continue to be loved and remembered by so many more.

"I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die." —Jesus, in John 11:25-26.

Condolences

  • Matt, I know how much your father meant to you and how hard this is for you. You were blessed to have him for as long as you did. The man you are is a true tribute to the father he was. My deepest sympathy to you and your family. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Gail McLeod
  • Matt, the original Mr.V taught our Mr. V what it takes to be a good man and father. The love and respect you had for him was evident to all who know you. May he rest in God’s love and peace. Hope and Pat Curtin
