Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dr. Nicholas Nick Aaron Vitale, a beloved son, brother, uncle, friend, and dedicated veterinary surgeon, on June 11, 2026, in Royal Oak, Michigan, at the age of 41. Born on March 8, 1985, in Dearborn, Michigan, Nick's life was a testament to his passion for animals and his unwavering commitment to their care.
Nick grew up in New Boston and graduated from Huron High School, where he not only obtained top grades, but also played basketball and excelled in the game of golf. It was his love for animals, however, that truly defined him. From a young age, Nick knew his life's work would be dedicated to helping and caring for animals, a calling that guided him throughout his life.
Nick pursued his dream by graduating from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. Initially drawn to the study of disease, he began a residency in anatomic pathology at Cornell University. However, realizing his true passions lie elsewhere, he returned to Michigan to practice small animal medicine. His journey then took him to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he spent three and a half years honing his skills in advanced veterinary medicine, working with both companion and exotic animals.
In 2019, Nick returned to Michigan, bringing his expertise and innovative medical procedures to Southeastern Michigan. He joined Wilson Veterinary Hospital in Washington Township, where his dedication and skill quickly earned him a partnership in June 2021. As a veterinary surgeon and owner, Nick made a profound impact on the lives of countless animals and their owners, embodying the compassion and excellence he had always aspired to achieve.
Nick was more than an owner of the practice; he was a trusted veterinarian, brilliant surgeon, a mentor, a friend, and a source of comfort for countless families and their beloved pets. His compassion, dedication, and genuine care touched the lives of everyone who walked through the doors. Whether he was caring for a patient, supporting a client through a difficult decision, or sharing a laugh with team members, Nick made people feel valued and cared for.
For those fortunate enough to work alongside him, his leadership was defined not only by his knowledge and skill, but by his kindness, humility, and unwavering commitment to doing what was right. He built more than a veterinary practice – he built a community founded on compassion, trust, and respect.
Nick's legacy is carried forward by his loving parents, Mark and Paula Vitale; his sister, Samantha Chapman, her husband Tony, and their daughters, Sloane and Fiona; his best friend, Heather Grodi; and his godson, Oliver Page. His cherished French Bulldogs, Bodhi and Elvie, were constant companions who brought him immense joy.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Michigan Memorial Funeral Home from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a service at 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Association of Zoos and Aquariums or the Michigan Humane Society in Nick's name, honoring his lifelong dedication to animal welfare.
Nick Vitale's life was a beacon of inspiration, marked by his tireless devotion to the creatures he loved. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him and those who follow in his footsteps, ensuring that his passion for animal care lives on.
