Obituary
Nancy Alice VanDerVoort of Brownstown, Michigan passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 14th, 2025 at 85 years old. Born on August 15th, 1940, she grew up in Huron Township, Michigan, where she met the love of her life, Eugene VanDerVoort, to whom she was married for 67 years in a partnership built on unwavering love and endless devotion.
Nancy spent her life as a dedicated homemaker, raising three daughters, and later opening her heart and home to care for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She and Gene built a life where their home was always an inviting space where family and friends could drop in for a visit, a homemade baked good, or just a cup of sugar.
Nancy had many talents and hobbies. She was an excellent cook and loved baking, often going back to her Hungarian roots to make chicken paprikas and kiffles. It was a cherished tradition to make holiday cutout cookies and decorations with her grandchildren and later, her great-grandchildren. She was also an avid crafter with many creative outlets including floral arranging, painting ceramics, and coloring.
Nancy's innate kindness and vibrant social spirit endeared her to many. She maintained deep, enduring friendships, many of which dated back to her high school years in Huron Township. With her numerous friends, she loved hosting gatherings, getting together for lunches, and traveling, frequently venturing internationally to Europe and Hawaii. Together, Nancy and Gene always made time for family adventures, creating cherished memories by taking their children and then grandchildren on fun-filled vacations to locations like Disney World, Myrtle Beach, and Texas.
Nancy is survived by her loving husband, Gene, two daughters, Lynn Lance (Keith) and Tammy Hirsch (Dan Toon), four grandchildren Bill Lance (Vicki), Dan Lance (Nancy Bryant), Samantha Hewlett (Jason) and Alee Sharlow (John), as well as four great-grandchildren, Brody, Lola, Hunter, and Parker. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph & Julia Kovacs, daughter, Sherry VanDerVoort, and siblings, Otto (Virginia) Kovacs and Anna (Marv) Wenzel.
