Obituary
WELCH, Chuck A., 74 years old, of Monroe, went home peacefully to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 17, 2023. Born October 17, 1948, he was the son of the late Floyd and Luella (Henderson) Welch. He graduated from Ida High School in 1966. Married Linda (Swanson) Welch, on September 16, 1967, and shortly after was drafted into the US Army where he served as a Sergeant with the 1st Squadron of the 1st Calvary and did a tour in Vietnam from March 1969 to March 1970. During his time of service he earned a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts.
Chuck worked for Ford Motor Company for over 40 years and several years with Arcelor-Mittal Steel before he fully retired. He is the loving father of Jennifer Welch and the late Brian Welch. He was a proud supporter of his children in all their endeavors. Family was of the utmost importance to Chuck. He did everything he could to support his family in any way they needed and was a strong role model for his children and all his nieces and nephews.
Chuck was a compassionate and giving man who would always lend a helping hand. He loved coaching and playing softball, volunteering with St. Michaels WE CARE of Monroe, and most recently becoming the favorite camp cook at JA DO Campgrounds in Irish Hills. He was famous for his grilled pineapples, pineapple pancakes, his “Bag Breakfast” events and especially for his ribs. Everyone was always welcome at the camper and no one ever left the deck at Chuck’s hungry.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife, Linda (Chach) of Monroe, Jennifer of Grand Rapids, his sister, Donna (Blaine) Parker of Toledo, his sister, Debra Singer-Sullivan of Toledo, his sister-in-law, Susie (Henley) Welch and Gwen (William) Welch, brother-in-law, Jack Haman and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, and great-grand nieces and nephews, whom he loved very much. In addition to his parents and his son, Brian, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Henley, John, and William Welch, and his sisters JoAnn (Kenneth) Mental, Lillian (Tom) Van Riper, and Rosemary Haman.
