With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of James Ben Wambergue, who passed away on September 17, 2026, in Carleton, Michigan, at the age of 86. Born on January 8, 1940, in Nankin Township, Michigan, James was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
James was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Judy Wambergue, with whom he shared 32 wonderful years of marriage. He also follows his dear parents, Benjamin and Ella Wambergue, his son-in-law, Henry Davis Jr., and his sisters Nancy (Dolan) Hunley, Betty (Gene) Burleson, and Alice McGowan.
A generous soul, James was a significant donor to many charities, reflecting his deep compassion and commitment to the well-being of others. His giving spirit was a testament to his character, and he will be remembered for his immense kindness and dedication to helping those in need.
James was a long-standing member of the United Auto Workers (UAW), where he formed lifelong friendships and actively participated in the community. He proudly retired from Ford’s Woodhaven Stamping Plant after many years of dedicated service.
He leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory: his children Janine (Gary) Smith, Joyce Davis (significant other Jody Gaddis), and Jason (Holly) Wambergue. He was a proud grandfather to Brianne Smith, Benjamin (Krystal) Smith, Maurissa Smith, Jordan Davis, Jade Davis, Jette Davis, Jason Wambergue II, and Lauren Wambergue, and a doting great-grandfather to Bailey Smith and Cooper Smith
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choosing in memory of James. His legacy of generosity will live on through the continued support of causes close to his heart.
James's life was a testament to love, generosity, and devotion to family and friends. He will be dearly missed and eternally remembered by all who had the privilege to know him.
