John Douglas Wright, born on June 16, 1944, in Redfox, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2025, in Taylor, Michigan, at the age of 81 years.
John was a devoted family man who cherished his roles as a loving husband, caring father, proud poppa, and great-poppa. He shared an incredible 61-year journey with the love of his life, Shirley Wright, whom he met on a memorable double date when she was just 16 years old. Together, they built a family that was the center of Johnny's world.
He was known for his big heart and steadfast support for those he loved. A man of many interests, John had a particular fondness for sports, horse racing, and race car racing, enjoying them all from what he fondly called "the best seat in the house"—his home. With a playful sense of humor, he often stirred the pot with his quick wit and was always ready with a helping hand for those who needed it.
An enthusiast of classic vehicles, John cherished his old Chevy pickup, spending countless hours working on it. Poker games became a beloved holiday tradition, though it was often Shirley who seemed to win the pot after the family gathered for their meal. His humor, love, and unwavering loyalty will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
John is preceded in death by his parents, John and Colleen Wright, and his brother, Butch Wright. He leaves behind a cherished legacy through his surviving family: his beloved wife, Shirley; his children, Theresa (Gordon) "Wright" Hahn, Bonnie (Vernon Merriman) "Wright" Spiegel, Melinda (David) "Wright" Rogers, and Johnny (Cassandra Pippin) Wright; and his grandchildren, Joshua, Jason (Rick), Sarah (Mike), Rachel, Candice, Trevor, and Courtney. He was also blessed with an abundance of great-grandchildren: Noah, Aiden, Garrett, Wolf, Ethan, Grayson, Emmitt, Leighton, Aurora, Kyle, Madison, Hunter, and Chase. John is survived by his siblings, Tommi Sue (Bob), Jerome (Judy), Pat (Dennis), Terri (Bobby), Jett and sister- in- law Bonnie.
John Douglas Wright will be remembered the unforgettable moments he brought into the lives of his family and friends. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
