Obituary

Kenneth Weddle, Jr., 79, of Newport, formally of Carleton, Michigan, died Tuesday June 10th in his home surrounded by his loving family.He was born March 31, 1935 in Lincoln Park, MI to the late Kenneth Edward and Carrie Smith Weddle. Kenneth was a standout athlete at Flat Rock High School graduating with the class of 1953. He attended both Michigan State University and Eastern Michigan University where he received his Master’s Degree. Kenneth served in the United States Army from 1954 through 1956 with the 47th Infantry Regiment. On August 6, 1960 he married Beverly Hildebrand at Faith Lutheran Church in Flat Rock.Kenneth had a long and distinguished career in formal education serving as a teacher, guidance counselor and coach for the Southgate Community School District, retiring in 1989. After retirement, he spent his summer months working at Lake Erie Metropark. Kenneth was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. He travelled throughout the United States and Canada hunting various game and especially enjoyed his annual pheasant hunting trips to South Dakota. He was a member of the Carleton Sportsman Club, a member of the Swan Boat Club, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Monroe, MI, life member of the American Legion, life member of the Flat Rock Elks Club and a Patron Member of the NRA.He is survived by his wife Beverly; his daughters Carrie (Chuck) Ramsey, Caryn (Marshall) Jenkins, Cathy (Mike) Bergmooser, Christa (fiancé Chris Carr); 7 grandchildren, Madalyn, Lauryn, Aubree, Carly, Michael, Kyle & Erica; sisters, Louise Cleland and Shirley Gagnon. He was preceded in death by his parents. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place.
