Obituary
It is with great sadness that we mark the passing of Lawrence William Wells of Commerce, Michigan, on August 24, 2026. Survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara Dowdy Wells; proud father to daughter Julie and sons Brian (Rebecca), Mark, and Michael (Melanie). Loving grandfather of Carter (Hannah), Lauren, Peighton, and Aiden. Preceded from this life by his parents, Robert L. and Gertrude Wells, and brother, Robert S. Wells. Survived by brother and lifelong admirer, Daniel (Marilyn) Wells.
Larry Wells was born October 11, 1946, in Detroit; the family moved to Bloomfield Township in 1951, and Larry attended school at Holy Name and Brother Rice High School in Birmingham. An excellent baseball player who played though the Class D level. He attended the University of Michigan, graduating in 1968; the following year Larry enlisted in the U.S. Army, successfully completing training at Officer’s Candidate School, Fort Benning, Georgia. A tour in Vietnam soon followed, where Larry served with distinction, pride, and true honor. He returned through God’s good graces to raise his family with Barbara while working in social services for Oakland County.
Loving son and husband, proud father, mentor, and a true brother; friend to many and enemy to none, you will live in our hearts forever.
