Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Marlene Lee Wojchihosky, who departed this life on July 11, 2024, at the age of 79. Born on February 18, 1945, in Canton, Ohio, Marlene’s journey through life was marked by love, family, dedication and a zest for life.

Her life was richly blessed with a loving family. Marlene was married to Ron Wojchihosky for 60 wonderful years, a love story that began at a high school carnival kissing booth. Together, they created a beautiful family and cherished their daughters Debbie (Carl) Squire, Jane (Shawn) Moore, and Linda (Allen) Rising. Marlene’s heart overflowed with pride and joy for her grandchildren Lindsay (John) Parker, Jacob (Rachel) Gutierrez, Jenny (Dean) Haas, Stephanie (Ryan) Smith, Julie (Devon McNeil) Gutierrez, Mary Squire, Erica Moore, Evy Squire, Cathy Rising, Kevin Rising, and her great-grandchildren Travis, Clara, Levi, and Abigail. Marlene and Ron split their time between their cherished home in Cheboygan, Michigan, where family gatherings were frequent, and the warmer climate of Florida in the winter. In their later years, they embraced the vibrant life of Las Vegas, Nevada, making the most of each moment together.

Marlene was a true embodiment of inspiration and grace. She held a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and devoted 25 years of her professional life as an Administration Manager for DTE. Her work ethic and leadership left an indelible mark on her colleagues and the organization.

Beyond her career, Marlene was known as “The Queen” of the Cheboygan Red Hat Ladies, a title that reflected her charismatic and regal presence within her community. Marlene’s interests painted the picture of a vibrant and creative soul. She loved taking charge and planning parties, ensuring every gathering was filled with laughter and joy. Marlene had a passion for quilting, ceramics, and collecting bird figurines, with a special fondness for hummingbirds that symbolized her cheerful and gentle spirit. She enjoyed watching her favorite series, “Blue Bloods,” and the “Rocky” movies, moments that brought her comfort and entertainment.

Though preceded in death by her parents Virgil and Opal Deters, sister Caroline Marks, brothers Carroll and Alan Deters, and great-granddaughter Penelope Gutierrez, Marlene’s legacy continues in the hearts of her surviving family: brother Don Deters, sisters Doreene (Jim) Christie and Christine (Craig) Moore, in-laws George (Sue) Haller and Jerry (Irene) Wojchihosky, sister-in-law Margaret Deters, and many dear friends and extended family members.

Marlene’s life was a testament to the power of love, family and the joy found in simple pleasures. Her spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew her, a brilliant tapestry of cherished memories and enduring love.

The family will host visitation and service at a date yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Association are welcomed and appreciated. Click on the donation button to the left to contribute to Marlene’s memory.
