Obituary
Philip Al Warunek, age 70, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loving family and friends. He was born on July 21, 1954 in Hamtramck, Michigan to the late Stanley and Jane (Ossowski) Warunek. Devoted husband of Kathleen (Showers) Warunek of almost 20 years. Loving stepfather to Mark (Cassie) Prior and Julie Parent. Cherished Dzia Dzia to Leo, Parker and Edward. Dear brother of Kristine (the late John) Pierce, and the late Paul Warunek. Phil leaves behind many family members and friends who will remember him fondly, including his lifelong friend Jerry Orlowski.
Phil always had a story and he loved to tell it. In his brief singing days with his band or with accompaniment by his dear friend Pat Brennan, Phil’s sister Kris says he sang Joe Cocker better than Joe Cocker. Many people were the recipient of his kind and generous heart. During his time working for Panera Bread, you might wake up to a bag of fresh bagels on your front porch, or delivered to your business, which gave him the nickname of Bagel Phil.
During Phil and Kathy’s trip to the Mediterranean, Phil had his first taste of Limoncello. On their return, the recipe research started. Phil’s Limoncello became a mainstay at family reunions and parties. His memory will be cherished by family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. Per Phil’s wishes, the family will hold a Celebration of Life at a later date.
