Michael John Young, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on February 20, 2025, in Detroit, Michigan. Born on March 3, 1940, in Niagara Falls, New York, Michael was 84 years old at the time of his passing.
He is survived by his cherished wife, Frances Mary Young, who stood by his side throughout their many years together, and their beautiful children, Michael (Teresa) Young, Lisa (Paul) Horvath, Deborah (Leisa) Gagnon-Gorringe, and Kimberly (Mark) Cross. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Chelsea (Geoff), Michael (Karli), Stephanie (Steve), Shelby (Rose), Lindsey (Scott), Steven, Mackenzie, Allison, Joey, Emma (Gavin), and Nicholas, as well as his great-grandchildren, Summer, Sawyer, and Franklin, all of whom brought immense joy and pride to his life.
Michael is also survived by his siblings, Kathleen (Larry) Posey, Sue Ellen (Ted) Brigham-Young, Billy Young, and David (Mary Pat) Young, who will forever cherish his memory.
Michael was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Robert and Florence Young, as well as his siblings, Robert, John, Jean, Anne, James, Margaret, and Mary Beth.
Throughout his life, Michael was deeply passionate about sports and games. He dedicated much of his time as a longtime coach of baseball in Brownstown, influencing and inspiring numerous young athletes with his dedication and love for the game. His interests were vast, including bowling, softball, golf, and playing euchre and poker. He also enjoyed trips to the casino, where he found laughter and camaraderie.
Above all, Michael treasured his family, taking immense pride in each of his grandchildren's achievements. His warmth and devotion will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, reflecting Michael's generous spirit and commitment to helping others.
Michael's memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, who will honor his life and the love he shared with them.
