Obituary
Barbara Jean Zavalney, born on January 22, 1951, in Wyandotte, Michigan, passed away on July 17, 2026, in Woodhaven, Michigan, at the age of 75.
Barbara dedicated her life to caring for others as a registered nurse, a profession that reflected her compassionate and nurturing spirit.
Beyond her career, Barbara found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She enjoyed playing Euchre, reading books, and quilting. She was a lover of the outdoors, enjoying nature and bird watching, especially for cardinals and hummingbirds. She also enjoyed being a grandmother.
Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Evan and Dolores Zavalney, and her sister, Cathy (Mike) Butkin. She is survived by her daughter, Wendy (Eric) Butterfield; her son, Joseph (Jackie) Wackro; her cherished grandchildren, Nathan and Erika; and her siblings, Gary (Becky) Zavalney, Denise (Fred) Koch, Sandy (Scott) Sawicki, and John (Darlene) Zavalney. Barbara is also survived by a very large extended family and many dear friends who will miss her greatly.
A memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at Michigan Memorial Funeral Home, followed by a Nursing Honor Guard ceremony at 10:30 a.m. and a service at 11:00 a.m.
