Obituary

John Daniel Zurawski - “Baby John” & “Johnny Z”, age 67, of Lincoln Park, Michigan, passed away peacefully October 12, 2025.

Born on September 17, 1958, in Trenton, Michigan, John was the eldest child of John and Donna Zurawski. He grew up in Ecorse and moved to Romulus in 1971.

He played high school hockey and continued his love for the game cheering on his favorite team – the Detroit Red Wings.  During his high school years, he was a talented musician.  He played the saxophone and was the Drum Major for the Romulus Eagles Marching Band. Wherever John was, music was always around.

John worked more than half his life as a millwright at Great Lakes Steel, where he was very prideful of his work.  He made life-long friends that shared an amazing “brotherhood” bond long after retirement.  We can all agree, John had the biggest heart in the world.  He was known for his humor, kindness, and love for all people & animals.

Although John didn’t have children of his own, he adored his nieces and nephews and spoke of them often with pride. His home was filled with photos, each one a reflection of the love and joy he found in family and friends.  John would call daily to check in and get updates on the kids. He glowed sharing the kids’ accomplishments and sport stats with all.  He never ended a conversation without telling us “I love you, be safe & take care”.

John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Delores; his parents, John and Donna; his brother, Edward and his great niece, Cana Woody. He is survived by his siblings: Diane (John Hughes) Zurawski, Larraine (Wayne) Lawson, Joe (Jenny) Zurawski, his brother in-laws Danny (Pamela) Berryhill & John Barley.  He is also survived by his nephews and nieces: Mark Woody, Justin Poet, Kristin Lawson, Lucas Lawson, Evan Zurawski, Megan Zurawski and Madison Zurawski; great nieces and nephews: Ruby Gibbings, Abel Woody, Sawyer Kostora, Channing Woody and Cameron Kostora.

John valued connection above all else. He truly appreciated time spent with family and lifelong friends. John will always be remembered for his warm and generous heart, his laughter, and the friendships he cherished throughout his life.  May his legacy remain strong in all of our hearts.

A hearse procession from Michigan Memorial Funeral Home to the Michigan Memorial Chapel will commence at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 22. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed immediately by interment at Michigan Memorial cemetery.

A celebration of life luncheon will be held at the Huron Sportsmen Association in New Boston, Michigan, following the burial.

Condolences
